Traditional door canopies

GRP door canopies combine the strength of fibreglass with a light, low-maintenance finish that stands up to British weather year after year. Moulded rather than built from separate parts, they won't rot, warp or need repainting the way a timber canopy does — a quick wash keeps them looking fresh. Every canopy is designed and manufactured in the UK and can be moulded into traditional or contemporary styles to suit your entrance. If you'd like a clear cover instead, see our glass canopies and polycarbonate canopies.

What is GRP?
GRP — Glass Reinforced Plastic, also called fibreglass — is a composite made by binding fibreglass strands in a resin base. The result is a structure that's strong yet remarkably light, which is why it's used for everything from boat hulls to architectural mouldings. As a door canopy, it gives you the solidity of a moulded one-piece cover without the weight of timber or metal.

Durable and weather-resistant
GRP stands up well to the elements — UV, rain, snow and swings in temperature — which makes it a sound choice for all-year outdoor protection. Because it's non-porous it resists moisture and fading, so the finish holds up in exposed positions where other materials would deteriorate.

Lightweight and easy to install
For its strength, GRP is surprisingly light. That makes it easier to handle, transport and fix than heavier wood or metal canopies, and it puts less load on the wall fixings.

Low maintenance
Unlike timber, GRP doesn't rot, warp or need regular repainting. It's non-porous, so upkeep is minimal — cleaning with warm soapy water is usually all that's needed to keep it looking new.

Design flexibility
Because GRP is moulded, it can be formed into a wide range of traditional and contemporary shapes and sizes. Styles, dimensions and bracket details vary by model, so check the individual product details for each canopy's specification. As with any canopy, confirm the supplied wind and snow load figures against the requirements for your building and location.

Frequently asked questions

What does GRP stand for?
GRP means Glass Reinforced Plastic — fibreglass strands set in a resin base. It's also called fibreglass or FRP, and it produces a strong, lightweight, one-piece moulded canopy.
Do GRP canopies need much maintenance?
Very little. GRP doesn't rot, warp or need repainting, and being non-porous it just needs an occasional wash with soapy water to keep it looking fresh.
Will a GRP canopy fade or weather in the sun?
GRP is resistant to moisture and fading and copes well with UV, rain and snow, which makes it well suited to exposed, all-weather positions.
Is GRP strong enough for a doorway canopy?
Yes. The fibreglass-and-resin composite is strong for its weight, giving a solid moulded cover that's still light enough to be easy to fix.
Can I get GRP canopies in different styles?
Yes — GRP is moulded, so it comes in a range of traditional and contemporary designs and sizes. Check the individual product details for each model's dimensions and style.
